TalkingParents costs $7, $16, or $32 a month per parent — $77, $176, or $352 a year if you pay annually — and both parents need a paid plan to message each other. The free plan ended on March 30, 2026. The only ways to use it without paying are a 30-day trial (on the two upper tiers only) or a fee waiver for financial hardship or domestic-violence safety.
Prices below were checked on August 29, 2026 against TalkingParents' pricing page and help center. They vary by where you subscribe; the App Store charges more than the website.
For years TalkingParents had a free plan. Its July 2025 announcement of the current three tiers still described a Free Plan with "access to core tools, available via their website." That ended in spring 2026. The pricing page and FAQ now carry one line on it:
"As of March 30, 2026, you'll need a paid subscription to use the TalkingParents app. However, you can apply for a fee waiver if you qualify for financial or domestic violence support."
There is no longer a free way to keep messaging a co-parent on TalkingParents.

Two things people miss:
Other add-ons: extra calling minutes are $35 per 100 on the website ($46 through Apple or Google) and never expire; SMS notifications are $0.10 each; Accountable Payments carry a 4%, 3%, or 2% fee by tier. TalkingParents states it offers no coupons, promo codes, or custom rates.
Yes, with a catch. The 30-day free trial applies to Enhanced and Ultimate only, for first-time subscribers, one trial per account. The help center says Essentials has "no 30-day free trial available" and is charged the $7 monthly fee at signup — even though the pricing page prints "30-day FREE trial" above all three plans. If you want to test it without paying, start on Enhanced.
Every tier has secure messaging, the shared calendar, the info library, and a personal journal. The tiers differ on calling, storage, records, and the tone tool:

Two gaps worth knowing before you buy. TalkingParents has no attorney or professional access: "We do not currently offer third-party access for legal professionals." Your lawyer sees your record only when you export and send it. And the tone tool that flags heated messages before they send is locked to the $352-a-year Ultimate tier.
There are two, and a court order to use TalkingParents does not by itself qualify you for either.
Financial-hardship waiver — the Essentials plan for one year. You need one court document (an indigency determination, fee-waiver approval, or an order referencing inability to pay) and one benefits document (a SNAP, SSI, or Medicaid award letter, an unemployment determination, an IRS tax transcript, or an IRS verification of non-filing).
Safety waiver — the Enhanced plan for six months, for the protected party under a currently active protective order, restraining order, injunction, or similar court documentation.
Documents generally must be dated within 90 days (IRS transcripts excepted). Waivers are per account, non-transferable, don't include Ultimate, don't cover add-ons like records or minutes, and have to be reapplied for when they end. You apply by submitting a support request through the TalkingParents help center with your documentation.
For a co-parenting household, TalkingParents runs $154 to $704 a year, and if your co-parent won't pay, you can't use it at all — the account has to be "matched and activated with your co-parent." Two alternatives worth a look:

TalkingParents is $77 to $352 a year per parent, billed to each parent separately, with records and the tone tool sitting behind the higher tiers. The free plan is gone as of March 30, 2026; the trial covers Enhanced and Ultimate but not Essentials; the fee waivers are real but need court paperwork. If a judge ordered TalkingParents specifically, use it and ask about the waiver. If you're choosing, run the numbers for both parents, not one.
